Candle Safety
Candles are not a health risk per se, but any open flame is a potential fire and must be handled properly. To enjoy your candles in safety, and to have them burn cleanly and produce minimal soot, please observe the following steps:
- Always keep a burning candle within sight.
- Never burn a candle on or near flammable materials.
- Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
- Trim wicks to 1/4 inch prior to each use.
- Keep candles away from drafts and vents.
- Always use an appropriate candleholder placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Never touch or move a votive or container candle when the wax is liquid.
- Remove wick trimmings, matches and other debris from the wax pool.
- Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room.
- Extinguish any candle that is smoking or noticeably flickering.
- Place burning candles at least 3 inches apart from one another.
- Do not burn too many candles in a small room or in a "tight" home where air exchange is limited.
Candle Care
Candles should be stored in a cool, dark, dry place and, for tapers, in a flat position to prevent warping. When stored properly, candles can be enjoyed for years.
